Rise of Iron, Destiny’s Next Expansion has Been Unveiled

Rise of Iron is Destiny‘s next adventure, and it will be coming out on September 20th. After weeks of leaks and rumours, Bungie finally detailed what will be coming in the September expansion. The new expansion will be focused on a new type of Fallen, as well as following a storyline utilizing Lord Saladin and his history with The City. Lord Saladin is known as the face of Iron Banner, Destiny’s monthly PvP event, but it will be nice to see some in-game story that will utilize him.

Along with the new campaign story and quests, there will be all new armor and gear to acquire, and a new social area for players to congregate in. The quest to take on the new Fallen menace will also take guardians deep into new areas, including the Plaguelands, which is a whole new zone, as well as Fellwinter’s Peak and The Wall.

There will be a new strike and updates to previous strikes, that tie in thematically to the story, as well as new public events. There will also be an all new Raid, with more information to be revealed as the expansion gets closer to launch. Additionally, look forward to new PvP maps and an all new mode.

One of the biggest surprises is that Rise of Iron will be released only on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Many figured that it would take until 2017 when Destiny 2 releases, for Destiny to leave last-gen behind, but come September, the next adventure will only be coming to current-gen systems. Whether or not the following DLC or events will be current-gen exclusive remains to be seen.

Rise of Iron launches on September 20th, and if you pre-order it you will receive an Iron Gjallarhorn. You can also earn Gjallarhorn in the game through a quest line, but it appears the iron version is only available through pre-ordering. Regardless, since House of Wolves, Bungie has upped their storytelling game especially and it looks like Rise of Iron will continue to give fans much to chew on, as well as the gunplay they have come to love.
