Rust Stone And Shelter Guide

Everything you need to know!

Rust Guide

Rust is a multiplayer survival game released for the first time in early access back in 2013. Over the course of development, the title continued to grow with content. After 5 years of early access, the long-awaited version 1.0 of Rust was released. The game was quite popular among survival lovers but, as often happens with titles of this type, over time it ended up in oblivion. Despite the long period of abandonment, in recent weeks the title is experiencing a second youth thanks to many new players. For many people, however, it may not be easy to figure out how to move in a game of this type, especially after all these years. To help players in difficulty, I have therefore created this guide. Here is my complete Rust stone and shelter guide!

SCATTERED STONES

One of the easiest ways to get stone in Facepunch Studios’ Rust is to collect the stones scattered all over the map. You can safely use these small stones as a component for crafting. However, collecting them in this way will really waste a lot of time. To create the most advanced constructions in Rust, you will have to get a lot of stone. This method can only be effective in the early stages of the game. Despite the low efficiency, I still suggest that you collect the stones every time you have the opportunity.

STONE NODES

Let’s now move on to one of the best methods for taking large amounts of stone in the early stages of Rust. While exploring the game map, you will surely have come across some stone nodes scattered here and there. You generally find these large boulders on hills or mountainous areas. Take note that you can hit them with different tools in order to get stone. Each of these deposits is able to provide you with 1000 units of stone, as long as you use the right object to extract it. The best tools for recovering material are the metal pickaxe and the jackhammer, but the stone pickaxe can also work.

MINING QUARRY

If you are planning on taking large amounts of stone to build your base on Rust, then it might be worth trying to gain control of a mining quarry. They place these large machines in specific points on the map. At the cost of some low-level fuel, you can extract vast amounts of stone and other minerals.

Take note that these structures are very much desired by many players and consequently being able to master them could be really difficult, especially if you play alone. If you are really determined to use this machine, my advice is to build a base around it as quickly as possible. In this way, you can comfortably exploit the quarry at any time while protecting it from other players.

PROTECT YOUR VALUABLES

First of all, I want to underline that there is a marked difference between your shelter and your home in Rust. Both structures will act as a real Base Camp, where you can deposit your items to protect them from thieves, bandits, and other players in search of fortune. The storage of the items will allow you not to lose them around the map once you are dead. Take note that this will happen very often, trust me. Take advantage of it and be wise.

BUILDING A SHELTER

The shelter is the basic and simplest structure to build in Rust. It is a small building, very similar, at least in size, to the portable toilets found at stadium entrances. Just to give the idea. A shelter has 1000 health points and building it is pretty simple. All you need is simple wood, 50 units to be precise. As you well know, you can get the wood either by hitting the trees or by collecting the piles that you find around the map.

The shelter is as simple to build as it is fragile. In fact, weapons and grenades can easily destroy the structure. However, this is a good starting point for all those who are traveling around the world of Rust looking for materials to build a proper house. Once the shelter is built, you just need to equip it and place it in the spot you have chosen.

BUILDING A HOUSE

To build a house, however, you will certainly need more materials, but also a lot more patience. When constructing a house, you will need wooden planks. To create a plank, you will need 10 units of wood. Below you can see the amount of wooden planks that you will need to properly build your house.

INSTALL YOUR DOOR

Once you made the necessary calculations, you can start to think about the various parts of the house. The foundations are, of course, the first part that you will have to build and then graft onto the pillars. The latter are necessary to build windows, doors, and walls, because you can only build wooden structures between pillars.

As for the walls, they offer excellent protection. The wooden ones withstand, for example, up to 3 explosive charges and take no damage from melee weapons. Fundamental in the house’s construction is to establish the entrance to install the door. Always remember not to leave the server before you have done so, otherwise other players can enter and take over the structure.
