Towerfall: Ascension Sold Best On The PS4

Indie developer Matt Thorson has confirmed to Eurogamer that his hit indie title Towerfall Ascension is doing better on PS4 than it is on Steam. Originally an exclusive for the Ouya, Towerfall is a 2D archery combat title with both single player and multiplayer modes. Earlier this year the game was ported to the PC and PS4 as Towerfall: Ascension and has already grossed over $500,000.

Thorson believes that the success of his game on the PS4 can be attributed to how well suited Towerfall is to the platform. ”I think it’s just a console game, ya know?” he said. “People have controllers – it’s not confusing to get the controllers like it is for PC – and people have it in their living rooms already. I think a lot of people still sit down with their friends when they play their consoles, whereas they don’t do that on PC.” He went on to praise the help he’d been given by Sony, saying that ”they’ve featured and promoted it really well”.

This news will be very pleasing for Sony who have made indie titles a huge focus point for the PS4. In the last few years Steam has been seen as the obvious platform of choice for indie developers,  but the sales of Towerfall: Ascension have shown that consoles are starting to catch up.
