The first wave of Pokken Tournament DX DLC launched today, featuring the dynamic, dual type steel and ghost fighter, Aegislash. The generation six Pokemon has two forms, Blade Forme and Shield Forme, allowing for unique strategies of switching between the two to develop. The technical fighter is available to play right now with some new friends, as the DLC also introduces a new support set, featuring Mega Rayquaza and generation seven newcomer Mimikyu. New avatar items also come bundled in.
The original Pokken Tournament on the Wii U received no post-launch DLC, and the this pack seems to indicate positive sales and illustrates that Nintendo is planning on supporting the title. As the Wii U title managed to form a small but passionate competitive scene, support from Nintendo in the form of DLC and patches seems to indicate they’re getting behind the scene this time around. As the Pokemon company has been featuring the title at their competitive events, the company is likely hoping the larger fighting game community will pick the game up at major events.
The DLC is currently available for purchase in the Nintendo E-Shop for $14.99, which also features a second wave due out in March, which introduces a generation one favorite, Blastoise, as a fighter Pokemon, along with the mythical Mew and Celebi duo for support. The second wave will also feature some additional avatar items. The two fighters cannot be purchased separately, only as the $14.99 bundle as a duo, similar to the Breath of the Wild DLC pack released last year.
