Nintendo has announced that their latest entry into the Animal Crossing series has sold more than 800,000 copies… in the digital store.
Originally the new title for the Nintendo 3DS suffered from stock issues and many claimed that Nintendo were being unethical by charging high prices on the Nintendo eShop whilst not replenishing stock quickly enough.
The title in total has sold 2.73 million units in Japan by the end of December 2012. Out of the 800,000 digital copies, around 63% of these digital sales (500,000 copies) were made directly through Nintendo’s eShop itself. This totals out, as Nintendo Everything notes, to nearly 30% of the total sales being digital downloads.
