In an interview with The Sun, creative director of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Neil Druckmann, makes some interesting remarks about the fate of Nathan Drake, the beloved hero of the Uncharted series. “But with the end of this story, it will be really hard to do a sequel with Nathan Drake,” Druckmann says about the possible continuation of the Uncharted series.
Though this seemingly dire information may not actually point to Drake’s death in the fourth chapter of the Uncharted series, Druckmann continues to hint on a finality to it all: “Maybe there’ll be a prequel, maybe it will be a different character, I don’t know.” From these comments along with the title of the upcoming adventure, A Thief’s End, it is not out of the question that the fortune hunter could meet his end in the upcoming PlayStation exclusive.
The focus of many of Druckmann’s comments during the interview had to do with both the closure of the series as well as some kind of end to its main protagonist. “We’ve been with this character for so long,” Druckmann says, and “He’s at the height of his popularity, so it’s not a good business decision. But I feel like the best way to honor him is to go out on top, to finish his story.” How this end, this creative direction to “go out on top” is to be interpreted, can only be discovered once the game releases on April 26th.
