It is hard to keep details about something upcoming as a secret, but it is probably even harder to do so when the details are in a product already released. An intrepid Reddit user dug through Fallout 4 and its files to find details about the upcoming Survival mode, which has not had many details released up until this point. While some companies might deny or refuse comment, Bethesda went on Twitter to just go ahead and confirm everything.

Survival mode is the kind of mode that you don’t just jump into unless you are really dedicated to living the wasteland experience. Some of the information provided in the leak includes no manual saves or quicksaves, meaning the only way that you can save the game is if you find a bed to sleep in for at least an hour. That is, if you find a bed that will even let you sleep for a longer time than an hour since different bed types will affect how long you can rest. How about fast traveling? Well you can’t fast travel in real life, so you won’t be able to do it in Survival mode either. Are you prone to carrying an excess of bullets? Ammo is now weighted, which means you will definitely have to do some inventory management if you want to always be able to use weapons.
Some of the newer additions that players definitely have not had to contend with before in Fallout 4 is the inclusion of sicknesses. Eating raw meat, being hit by diseased creatures, or just drinking that unpurified water can make you sick. Using antibiotics, which can be crafted, will cure components of a sickness, but might not do so for the entire illness. As well, there is a fatigue meter which drains action points. This is now on top of the radiation meter that drained health. And finally, keep yourself fed, hydrated and rested because wellness is a huge component to the Survival mode experience in Fallout 4.

A release date for this Survival mode has not been announced yet, but Fallout 4 is about to receive its first new piece of DLC in March. A reminder that the season pass will be increasing in price on March 1st, so pick it up now if you’re even contemplating any of its upcoming content.
