THQ Nordic announced a new title in the works at The Game Awards called Fade to Silence. Fade to Silence is a survival game pitting the player against the elements and other dangers. The trailer showed the main character, Ash, surviving the harsh wintry wasteland. Ash is foraging for supplies to build a shelter and upgrade equipment. On top of fighting the elements, there are Eldritch monsters just trying to mess you up.
The monsters are only one thing to worry about because, in order to survive, Ash must rely on others. Ash must decide who to let into his refuge and who to leave behind. Individual skillset and character traits can be managed to grant access to higher tier resources and gear. It is said the narrative will contain a character-driven group survival experience.
On top of this, the winter dynamic will add an element of gameplay in Fade to Silence. This adds another element of decision making as well. You have to decide whether you can make it through an upcoming storm or hunker down and use gathered supplies.
For those interested, the game goes into Steam Early Access on Thursday, December 14. Fade to Silence will also be available on consoles some time in 2018.
This is the first big, new title we’ve seen from THQ Nordic, formally Nordic Games. Personally, I thought we were going to see more Darksiders III. Either way, the game looks intriguing. The game mixing survival, with gathering materials, then making tough decisions… I can’t think of anything like it off the top of my head. Hopefully, the team can pull this game off and make it into something great.
