There have been plenty of games set in the Warhammer 40K universe but never one quite like this. Australian developers Hammerfall have just announced that they are working on Warhammer 40,000: Chess – Regicide. Initially, this seems to be a very weird combination but the more I think about it the more it makes sense. After all, although they play very differently both Warhammer 40K and chess are turn based strategy board games which simulate combat.
In their press release, Hammerfall is very keen to stress that Chess – Regicide will go ‘beyond the traditional boundaries of chess’. On top of the standard single player and multiplayer classic modes, the game will also feature a campaign mode which ‘takes chess to a new level’. Not much is known so far about this campaign except that it will follow the Blood Ravens Chapter and will have upgradeable characters.
Warhammer 40,000: Chess – Regicide will launch this year for ‘multiple gaming platforms’.
