Tecmo Koei recently turned an old staple in gaming into something extremely new and different for the franchise. Hyrule Warriors has gotten great reviews and DLC coming its way and I’ve been enjoying it recently, so it got me thinking, what other series would benefit from this makeover?
5) Resident Evil
Granted, Resident Evil would be a stretch for Tecmo to get running since the Warriors series relies mostly on melee weapons. Just playing a version of Samurai Warriors 4 recently, though, I saw that some of the characters had projectile weapons. I also got farther along in Hyrule Warriors and was allowed bombs and arrows and such, so maybe, just maybe Tecmo can pull off some Racoon City action. Of course, the knife and tazer would have to be the main weapons, but being able to find the pistol, shotgun and grenade launcher as you clear out floors of he mansion would be amazing.
Like Hyrule Warriors, bosses would have to be beaten as you beat them in the original game, which would make it more challenging, but a great throwback to fans of the original series. Tecmo could smash a few games into each iteration, maybe have 1, 2, and 3 in the first game, then 0, Code Veronica and 5 in the next so gamers who have never played the originals can get a taste of the story and what they missed out. I would love to kill thousands of zombies and watch them fly into the air as I swung my knife around. I would love to see S.T.A.R.S. Warriors sitting next to my huge Resident Evil game collection.
4) Star Wars
A Star Wars and Tecmo Koei game seems like a match made in heaven. Lightsabers, epic battles, The Force, hoards of Stormtroopers, The Clone Wars, need I go on? Just imagine taking control of young Obi Wan Kenobi or Anakin Skywalker and battling droves of battle droids, pushing them away with The Force, slashing them in half with your Lightsaber. It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
This would be the toughest mash up to get together, though. Disney most likely won’t allow Tecmo the rights to make this game, and EA has the licensing at the moment. So while being Darth Maul and destroying clone trooper after trooper (mish mash of movies, I know) seems like a dream come true, it most likely won’t ever happen, but that’s what we said about Zelda one right? The world needs a Force Warriors.
3) Super Mario Brothers
Since Nintendo and Tecmo Koei have already teamed up for several collaborations, why not team up for the series that started it all? The development team may have a hard time making “Jump” the main attack, but they seem creative so I think they could pull it off. Going through all the worlds and defeating the Goombas, Turtles and such would be great fun, especially as you Power Up with the Fireball and throw shells at enemies. Yoshi would be your mount to ride and I think that having Wario and Waluigi as unlockable characters would be a game seller.
You could also use the Tanookie Suit for standard melee attacks instead of only jump. I think it would open up a lot of old school gamers eyes to play Mario as a straight on, 3D action game instead of a platformer or RPG. I know I would buy Mushroom Kingdom Warriors.
2) Harry Potter
The Harry Potter franchise has been thrown to the wolves in recent iterations of the games. There were a few of the games the I really enjoyed on my 360, but the last two games were pretty bad. Tecmo Koei could bring Harry Potter games back into the limelight. Imagine spells linked to the face buttons, and the ability to unlock new ones and upgrade what you have. Sending your Patronus after a swarm of Dementors would bring a tear to my eye.
Let’s not forget that Tecmo could also include they playable characters, Giants, Centaurs and why not even a troll fighting the kids in the bathroom? This game would have so many stories, great battles and characters to chose from, they could start up a whole new franchise with Hogwarts Warriors.
Lord of the Rings
Middle-Earth has played host to a copious amount epic battles, so why not let Tecmo dabble in that world for a few games? I would definitely pay sixty dollars to ride into the Battle at Helmsdeep as Gandolf and swat away orcs with my staff. I’d play that for hours and hours. Heck I’d even enjoy playing as Sam fighting off hoards of spiders (even though I hate spiders) just so that I could save Frodo and get to Mount Doom.
The wealth of story, battles, characters in this world is so massive that Tecmo could have just as a large of a franchise as the Dynasty series. I know that Warner Brothers just released Shadow of Mordor, which is set to be a nice franchise for them, but why not give us two great Lord of the Rings series to enjoy?
Those are five great franchises that I can see being turned into amazing games for all of us to enjoy. Tell us, what franchises do you believe would make a great Warriors game? Sound off in the comments.
