As part of the Indie Megabooth at PAX East this year, Asteroid Base was in attendance with their action platformer, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime. Continuing the growing trend of local co-op action, 1-2 players in this quirky platformer are tasked with controlling a spaceship through the world to save kidnapped space bunnies.
The premise of the game sounds simple but in reality the execution will require constant teamwork. Your spaceship is essential a large circular structure with ladders to each part of the ships components. The mechanics require players to man turrets, lasers, shields, and thrusters. Enemies attack your ship at a pretty constant rate so therefore one player should be in charge of going on the offense while the other player pilots and protects the ship via shields. After rescuing bunnies along the way, you not only open more levels to explore but you also acquire gems. These items can be used to upgrade different attributes of the ship. Collect more gems to create the ultimate bunny saving spacehip.
Lovers in Dangerous Spacetime contains procedurally generated star systems to keep the action fresh for subsequent playthroughs. The game controls are simple as you only need to use two buttons and a thumbstick. If you aren’t great at teamwork, no worries as the game does not feature permadeath but you will lose all your progress on the current level.
Asteroid Base will be releasing their 1-2 player co-op game on Steam and Xbox One later this year.
