Lionsgate and Take Two Interactive have announced that a Borderlands movie is now in the works.
The companies have announced that The Amazing Spiderman and Iron Man producers Avi and Ari Arad will be leading the creative team behind the Borderlands adaptation.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger said in the press release, “We believe that we’ve brought together the right partners, the ideal creative team and the perfect property to launch a new motion picture tent-pole for a global audience.” According to them, this is part of a new strategy to “enter the game space.”
It also seems that Lionsgate will be staying true to the series’ wacky nature and mature themes. Friedman and Wachsberger said, ” The Borderlands games don’t pull any punches, and we’ll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise.”
The Arads added, “Borderlands has a unique story-driven narrative energy and rich multidimensional characters that position it to become a singular motion picture event.”
No release date has been given for the Borderlands movie yet.
