Acer finally unveiled the successor to the company’s woefully pitiful Iconia W3 tablet, the Iconia W4. A successor to a bad product has quite a bit to improve, and from the surface, the W4 does not disappoint.
The one constant complaint about the W3 was its 1280 x 800 screen resolution. While it was the first Windows 8 tablet to have an 8.1-inch display, that very display was quite bad. The W4 improves on it by delivering a 1280 x 800 IPS display, which is sure to decrease glare and increase viewing angles.
The W4 is powered by Intel’s Atom processor from its Bay Trail series. Engadget notes that performance seemed very brisk, with the tablet able to open apps and programs with ease. Hardware-wise, we are looking at a 0.91 pound tablet that measures 0.42 inches. While the front-facing camera stays put with 2 megapixels, the back camera received an upgrade – from 2 to 5 megapixels.
As for ports on the W4, expect to see micro-USB, micro-HDMI, and microSD slots. Micro! If you so choose, you can opt to use a keyboard with the W4. Those interested will find it good to know that the W4 goes on sale this month, with the 32GB and 64GB going for $330 and $380, respectively.
