Activision CEO Bobby Kotick was at the Abu Dhabi Media Summit this week where he spoke of the growth potential he saw in the Middle Eastern gaming market. Kotick argued that with 65% of Activision Blizzard’s revenue coming from outside America, overseas markets are becoming more and more important.
The publisher recently set up a new studio in Shanghai to produce Call of Duty Online, a free-to-play shooter that Activision distributes in China via the massive Chinese corporation Tencent.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the Middle Eastern gaming market could be worth up to $4.4 billion by 2022. Kotick announced that if the region continued to see such a high level of growth, Activision would create a new game studio in the area and hire local talent .
