Assassin’s Creed games are known for taking places in large cities and multiple locations. Assassin’s Creed III, however, takes place in only two cities: Boston and New York. Even though there are only two cities featured, the cities will appear at different states at varying points in the plot. Ubisoft plans to depict the cities before, during and after historic cataclysmic events such as the New York Fire, the Siege of Boston and the Battle of Bunker Hill. There have been hints that players will be able explore inside building as well as climbing over then. This brings a whole new level of possibilities for escaping pursuing enemies.
Besides the two cities, the frontier accounts for a third of the game play area, which will also subject to seasonal changes. In winter, for example, some water sources will freeze over, which could provide alternative routes for the fleet on foot. This also provides more maneuverability for the games new protagonist, Connor, who will have certain advantages over the bogged-down enemy AI during the colder months.
Much like they did with Assassin’s Creed II, Ubisoft will let players play Connor as a young Mohawk villager, armed with nothing but a knife. Right now it is not known why he turns into a Templar scourge. If we can go by the events of Assassin’s Creed II, it’s a safe bet that there will be some sort of family tragedy to set the whole thing in motion.
Because of the historic timeframe, Connor will be seen with Benjamin Franklin (who fills the Leonardo da Vinci roll from past titles), George Washington, and possibly traitor Charles Lee.
Among the non-player characters to cross Connor’s path, you’ll rub shoulders with Benjamin Franklin (not a helpful inventor like Leonardo da Vinci as in past titles), the tough yet indecisive George Washington, and possible turncoat Charles Lee.
Connor will have to find his way through and around some of histories largest battles; he won’t be fighting in the battles, he’ll have his own agenda to help him through the carnage.
