Even though Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was officially revealed last week, we had to wait until today to get some definitive information about the title. We already knew of the release date, specific platforms it’ll be coming to and our new hero Edward Kenway, but now we have details from Ubisoft as well as a couple of trailers.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is set during the 18th Century, where Pirates have taken over the Caribbean and rule in whatever was they see fit. Edward Kenway has turned to piracy himself, after leaving the life of privateering for the Royal Navy. He’s described as young, cocky and fearsome, which soon lands him in the ongoing battle between the Assassins and Templars.
“With the new hero and new setting we are creating the boldest and most unique Assassin’s Creed game yet, while still respecting the pillars of the franchise that have made it such a fan favorite,” said Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer at Ubisoft. “Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag is based on a true, harsh and exciting part of a legendary era and will thrill longtime fans and newcomers alike.”
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is said to have been in development for nearly two years and will feature gameplay based on what the series does best. Come October 29th, we’ll know if the newest entry into this long running series is able to prove itself or is all show and no substance.
