At long last, the sequel to the massively popular indie title Banner Saga has gotten a release date: Banner Saga 2 will launch for the PC on April 19th of this year, with a launch for other platforms coming later this summer.
The choices, decisions, and paths players took in the first Banner Saga will carry over into the new game, and those choices will affect who lives and dies and how players start off. There’s also choices in place for new players who want to jump right into the sequel, but this game will feature just as many tough decisions to be made.
Banner Saga 2 will also feature new characters and races, such as the Horseborn. Having allies is a double-edged sword as you can accept them into your clan for added protection, but more people means less food, and trying to keep everyone alive can prove to be even more of a challenge with extra mouths to feed.
There’s also been improvements made to enemy variety and combat battle boards. Additional story will also be added as the battle wages, and with permanent character death being implemented, strategy –as always – is key in making sure everyone makes it out of an encounter alive.
Banner Saga 2 will also be making an appearance at PAX East in Boston to celebrate the game’s launch week. The showcase will last for all three days of the event and give attendees an inside look at both the game and the world of Banner Saga. The game will be playable at the Versus Evil Booth #10081 in the main hall of the event.
There will also be a Banner Saga panel taking place on Saturday of the event starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Albatross Theatre. The panel will tease what’s to be expected in Banner Saga 2 as well as discuss the game’s universe. Additionally the panel will be moderated by well-known YouTube gamer Jesse Cox and feature several dev team members such as Arnie Jorgensen (Art Director), John Watson (Technical Director), Drew McGee (Writer), Matt Rhoades (Tech Designer) and BAFTA winning composer Austin Wintory.
The first 100 attendees at the panel will receive a limited edition Banner Saga 2 t-shirt, and the dev team will be handing out prizes to cosplayers dressed as Banner Saga characters. Also for cosplayers, there will be a photo booth set up by the registration desk at the main hall with a backdrop from the game so attendees can have their own spot to take pictures in commemoration.
Also by the photo booth fans might be able to snag a limited-run copy of The Gift of Hadrborg by James Fadeley, who will actually be at the booth in question Saturday morning to sign copies. The book has further expanded the universe of the game, and serves as a prelude to the story players have delved into.
Banner Saga 2 has also been selected by Penny Arcade as one of the official Pinny Arcade collectable pins at the event. Anyone who visits the AMD booth to pick up a Banner Saga 2 lanyard will be able to receive the exclusive Bolverk pin. This pin they can then take to the Versus Evil booth in order to play the demo of the game.
Banner Saga 2 is currently available for pre-order on Steam at a 10% discount, and once again will be launching April 19th on PC.
