Bill Murray, who once teamed up with director Sofia Coppola for 2003’s Lost in Translation, are now working on Christmas TV special. In this production, Murray will be belting out classic holiday melodies according to the main man himself. Sofia Coppola confirmed as well that this is happening and isn’t just Bill speculating or blowing smoke. Here are his words from Variety:
It’s not going to be live. We’re going to do it like a little movie. It won’t have a format, but it’s going to have music. It will have texture. It will have threads through it that are writing. There will be prose. It will have a patina style and wit to it. It will be nice.
Sounds pretty fun considering this will be Sofia Coppola’s first TV project ever. Both Coppola and Murray have been keeping themselves busy as of late. Coppola is preparing her version of The Little Mermaid while Murray will be starring as the lead in this month’s St Vincent. This is very early news so no official word on when or where this will air on television. So while there’s nothing official yet, it’s certainly an attractive project that shouldn’t have too much trouble getting picked up. We already know Murray has some decent pipes from his moments on the mic in Lost in Translation and he apparently has some singing in St Vincent as well.
