The BioShock movie continues to have problems and has been stalled several times and, once again, production has come to a halt. The current director, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo who was brought in after Gore Verbinksi left the project, has said that he’s dropped out of the project as well.
Fresnadillo commented, “To be honest, by now, I’m completely out of that, and developing other stuff. Right now it’s on hold. The studio and the video game company, they have to reach some kind of agreement about the budget and the rating.”
The budget has been an issue for the project for a while now. This along with disagreement on the movie rating which stands; the games mood and content would fall into the R-rated criteria but such a rating wouldn’t draw as large of a crowd as if it had a PG-13 rating. Also add in the fear of another video-game movie flop where BioShock can end up like Super Mario Bros. with a nearly $20 million loss.
