Mac gamers are typically treated as second-class citizens as is, but things like this kind of give the impression that publishers and developers are just taking the piss, quite frankly. Two years after it originally hit pretty much every console known to mankind (and maybe even some known only to primates), Call Of Duty: Black Ops is finally getting released on Macs… just in time for Black Ops II to hit literally every single console known to mankind.
Aspyr, the people in charge of the conversion, announced that it’s hitting Steam on September 27th with a Mac App Store release to follow “shortly after”. That’s as specific as things get on the Mac App Store release, by the by. But how are Aspyr going to make it up to those people who have been waiting on the edge of their seat for the last two years for the Mac version of Black Ops? By bundling the First Strike DLC pack with the game and setting the retail price at $49.99! In addition, the Rezurrection DLC pack (the one with all the zombies) will be available at launch for $14.99 and the other two DLC packs (Annihilation and Escalation) will be coming later this year!
…yes, that is a really bum deal. I don’t care how you slice it. It’s $50 for a two year old game and 1 piece of DLC, the rest of which will be sold at $15 a piece. Which means that, when it’s all done, that’s $115 spent on a two year old game that people stopped caring about 12 months ago. Disgraceful.
So, Call Of Duty: Black Ops will be on Steam for Macs on September 27th for $49.99. I guess we’ll all meet back here in two years for the Black Ops II Mac release date announcement? Great.
