Capcom has announced a new online service for the upcoming game Resident Evil 6. The service will be called Resident Evil.net. It will be primarily used to track players stats throughout the game, as well as bring them together with collective goals given by the developers.
“This free site tracks all kinds of data pulled from your game – like proficiency with weapons, types of enemies killed or Mercenaries scores, to name a few – and allows you to compare it all against RE6 players around the world.” Capcom explained in their announcement.
“This not only lets you see how you compare to other players,” says Capcom, “but it also enables us to schedule online events that reward all participants with cool extras.”
Capcom then went on to explain how players will work together to forward their goals. “For example, let’s say one weekend the goal is to kill 10,000 zombies. Everyone who has an RE.net account and plays during that time period will receive RE.net points that can be redeemed on the site for a variety of goodies – chief among them, new costumes that appear in the actual game.”
Each event will have a winner who receives a “title belt” of which claims they are the current champion of these events. The belt will be awarded to the winner of each event. Once someone else has won an event, the belt will then show up on their profile instead. There will however, be a list of former players that held it at some point.
Capcom is also going to air a more informative video about the service when they appear at Gamescom. “We’ll actually be streaming a very informative video about RE.net this Wednesday and Friday from GamesCom – it’ll be 11am German time though, so US folks may have to stay up late for that one.”
