Jeri Ellsworth, a former Valve engineer, along with her colleague Rick Johnson launched a new Kickstarter campaign today for an all-new augmented virtual reality system called the castAR.
The CastAR system is said to be a “projected augmented reality system” that will apparentely be capable of displaying “holographic-like” 3D projections.
There are two peripherals in addition to the glasses that make this technology possible: the “Magic Wand” and the RFID Tracking Grid. The wand will allow the user to position items in space and control them while the grid will allow the user to identify the objects across the surface.
The final version of the glasses for the castAR system is expected to weigh less than 100 grams, described as “slightly heavier” than a normal pair of sunglasses. And for those that wear prescription glasses, the castAR glasses will work on top of them.
