During today’s Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct, Cloud from Final Fantasy VII was revealed to be joining the roster in the hours following the event. The price to add Cloud and the Final Fantasy VII Midgar battle stage to the game will be $5.99 for either Wii U or 3DS, or $6.99 for both.
Cloud’s move set was also revealed to viewers. Highlights include a 3-move combo side attack and a Limit Break mode where, after filling a hidden bar throughout battle or actively charging it, Cloud gains increased stats, a number of new alternative moves such as Blade Beam, and a new Final Smash, Omnismash. Cloud will also release with 2 costumes: one from Final Fantasy VII and one (with two variations) from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.
The new Midgar Stage will also be available on both Wii U and 3DS and notably features Summon Materia. Summon Materia, which will appear across the stage and may be collected by any fighter, will allow players to summon monsters which affect the stage directly. These monsters include Ifrit, who moves the stage with a large amount of fire; Ramuh, who attacks floating parts of the stage with lightning; Odin, who cuts the stage in half; Leviathan, who floods the stage with water; and Bahamut Zero, who launches a huge power blast onto the stage. The player who summons a monster receives points for any other player who is KO’d by the monster summoned.
A Chocobo hat and Geno Mii Fighter costume were also announced alongside Cloud and the Midgar Stage.
