The Colbert Report has at last announced its official conclusion after nearly a decade of wit.
On Thursday’s episode, Colbert revealed that the satirical news program will air its final episode on Thursday, Dec. 18th. The ending of the series comes in light of Colbert being hired by CBS to host The Late Show, replacing David Letterman.
Colbert proceeded to use the announcement as a ploy to buy his book, America Again: Re-becoming the Greatness We Never Weren’t.
“Stephen Colbert, the guy you’ve seen here every night for nine years will be gone. All you’ll have left of me is this book,” pleaded Colbert, “So pick up America Again in paperback for a loved one. Or for a hated one. Go to your local independent book store, because I have a longtime war against Amazon and I will never relent. Or—buy it on Amazon, because, you know, just buy it.”
The Colbert Report will have run ten seasons following its cancellation this December, starting back on Oct. 17th, 2005.
For those of you wondering, America Again: Re-becoming the Greatness We Never Weren’t is currently available on Amazon.
Colbert is expected to begin his takeover of The Late Show sometime in 2015.
