For many people, holidays bring back many memories of their childhood. Halloween would certainly be one of those times. With houses adorned in decorations that have been accumulated over time, family members gather around and fondly reminisce about past Halloween’s. Often, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” would be playing in the background as an accompaniment to these tales. Now four years ago, Double Fine added another memory to an already great time of the year with the release of Costume Quest. For many a gamer, it is a yearly tradition to boot up the game and once again go trick or treating in Auburn Pines. Fans of the franchise have also been clamoring for a sequel and today they get their wish.
Almost four years to the exact day the original was released, Midnight City and Double Fine have released Costume Quest 2 today on PC. The sequel picks up after the events from the DLC “Grubbins on Ice” and follows the twins Wren and Reynold as they try to save Halloween. Dr. Orel White, DDS along with the newly freed Grubbins have set out to put an end to all the Halloween fun, specifically candy. It’s up to the local kids to travel through space and time to save Halloween.
Costume Quest 2 features a bunch of new additions and improvements. Some of the new costumes are Super Hero, Pterodactyl, Thomas Jefferson, Ghost, and Pharaoh. The battle system has been improved to put an emphasis on a more tactical approach. Creepy Treat Cards have been implemented to drop loot and offer players boosts and abilities when in battle. During these confrontations, a strength and weakness indicator has been added so players can better strategize how to carry out attacks. Other updates include a save and health system via many of the in-game water fountains, side missions, and peristent health now carries over after each battle.
Costume Quest 2 is now available on Steam for PC at $14.99. Console versions will be released closer to Halloween.
