Fourattic and Devolver Digital have released a demo for their action-adventure game Crossing Souls for PS4 and PC. It contains the first few hours of the game.
In the game inspired by the 80’s, you play as a group of friends: Chris, Joe, Charlie, Kevin, and Matt. In Stranger Things-like fashion, they find something supernatural is occurring in their Californian town, and the government is keeping it under wraps.
Each of the five characters has different skills and combat styles to use in battle, and you can change them on the fly. It’s not just punching through goons though. There are puzzles to solve, big bosses, to face off against, and special levels that are inspired by the 1980’s. It also includes “thousand-year-old characters, cowboys, pirates, ice cream, pizza, cheeseburgers, [and] basketball.” It seems like it’s not your average indie game though as you will be able to “explore lots of places, interact with hundreds of NPC from different periods of time [..] and look for secret places and treasures” in the town.
According to the PlayStation page, the game is inspired by The Goonies, Gremlins, Back to the Future and many more. The music is also inspired by John Williams (Star Wars, E.T: The Extra-Terrestrial, Jaws) and Jerry Goldsmith (Gremlins, Poltergeist, The Secret of Nimh). This game is deep-rooted in the 1980’s and the cartoon visuals from its cutscenes establish its influences.
Fourattic was founded in 2012 in Spain. In 2014, they began a Kickstarter campaign for Crossing Souls and raised $51,983 from 1,752 backers.
Crossing Souls releases on February 13th for $14.99 or your regional equivalent. They have released the demo today, so you can figure out whether or not you want to figure out this Californian conundrum. The game will be available on PS4, Steam, and GOG.
