Cuphead has gone through several release dates, but it seemed likely that 2016 was going to finally be its time to shine. Unfortunately, the game from Studio MDHR has been delayed to mid-2017. The game was cited as delayed because “reducing the scope” of it in order to hit a release date is what would be required, and they were not willing to do that.
The “scope” which Studio MDHR is referring to is likely the expanded level design that Cuphead underwent after previously only being a boss-rush game. It now contains full-fledged levels of platforming in between the bosses. One of its main selling points is its art-style, which takes heavy influence from 1930s cartoons.
I played Cuphead when it was at Fan Expo 2016 in a demo state, and a delay is not a bad idea from my minimal experience. I messed with some of the platforming and a boss battle, both of which seemed to be a bit too redundant for prolonged enjoyment. Co-op seems to offer plenty of fun, but it still feels like the game has more of a focus on boss battles (which is only natural). It just needs refinement on its platforming. But damn it looks good. Hopefully, you’ll be able to experience Cuphead for yourself when it comes to Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam in mid-2017.
