In a world as chaotic and full of strife as the world of Dishonored, kings are doomed to fall at one point or another. On September 15th, you will join Billie and Daud in a sequel to Dishonored’s DLC and Dishonored 2, on a quest to kill the Outsider once and for all. Dishonored: Death of the Outsider will be a standalone release that puts Daud and his protégé on a collision course with the man who gave Daud his powers in the first place, The Outsider.
It is no secret that The Outsider holds no love for the people that he bestows his gifts upon. He finds them interesting toys, pawns and nothing more. The announcement trailer shows Billie Lurke saving her mentor Daud from capture, only to find out that her former master has one last job for her to take: ending The Outsider once and for all.
It isn’t clear where Dishonored: Death of the Outsider stands in the series’ timeline, though if this truly is the end of The Outsider then it likely follows Dishonored 2’s conclusion. I have to wonder though what this means for the franchise if they end The Outsider in this installment. Is this the end of the franchise? Or is Dishonored: Death of the Outsider merely a start of something new?
Based on the trailer it seems like this new adventure will feature the opportunity to play as either Billie or Daud, and provide different ways to play. Since Billie was not marked by the Outsider previously, it does bring up the question as to whether she will be marked, or if she will have abilities that are not tied to the Outsider at all. It also is concerning as to what it means for The Outsider and those he has marked. I find the Outsider to be a very enigmatic, interesting character, and this opens things up for us to be able to learn even more about his backstory. However if the game’s events do consist of him being killed, where will the series go from there?
With the success of Dishonored 2, it is clear that Arkane Studios know what they are doing, so fans should be looking forward to Dishonored: Death of the Outsider’s September 15th release on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
