GOG.com has announced today that starting immediately players will have the opportunity to purchase three of the best Disney platformers from the 16-bit era: The Lion King, Aladdin and The Jungle Book. The games are currently being sold at $9.99 a piece, with a bundle that has all three at $19.99. However, if you purchase the games before August 8th, you’ll receive a 10% discount on the individual titles and 33% off on the bundle.
One of the main standout features of Disney’s 16-bit era is its use of Digicel technology, which has helped their games remain aesthetically interesting even today. Utilizing hand-drawn cels, the sprites pop out from the background but still look like they belong in the scene. If you need evidence, there is a trailer above that shows the games off in all their glory.
I’m a huge fan of the 16-bit Disney games, especially The Lion King which I have fond memories of. I don’t think I ever got to play The Jungle Book, but I may be tempted enough to pick up these classic titles soon. It beats paying quite a bit for a SNES cartridge. Let us know in the comments below if you plan on picking up these titles, or if there are other Disney games from the 16-bit era that you think need a resurgence.
