There is a new popular kid in town–just mere weeks after its release, Ubisoft’s The Division has risen to be the most popular game on the Xbox One. It even beat out Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, a well-established franchise that holds the top spot for a very long time every year it is released.
News comes via VG24/7, and as IGN astutely states, we don’t know exactly how Microsoft’s popularity ranking is calculated. It could be by number of players playing the game, how many star ratings the game has received by players, or some other means of tracking.
One thing is for sure, The Division is clearly a successful new IP for the Swedish Ubisoft Massive. Thus far, the open-world shooter has broken several records: most day one sales for Ubisoft, largest Q1 launch in UK history, and the most lucrative first week for a new game franchise. The MMO elements of the new shooter have definitely helped keep players on board and likely lured friends of those players into the fray. It is definitely a game that hinges on social interaction between players.
