A few months back Bethesda Softworks caught many off guard when they announced that access to the DOOM beta was going to be the pre-order incentive for Wolfenstein: The New order. It was assumed that DOOM was being worked on as it was almost a running joke on social media sites. But the fact that it was close enough to actually have people test, now that was a surprise.
Now with all good things, there must always be a catch, correct? Today, it was announced via the Wolfenstein website that if you pre-order the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 version, you will receive a beta key but they will only work for either the Xbox One or PlayStation 4.
There will be no beta for last-gen systems.
According to the post on their site, retail boxed copies will have a code inside them and for those who have gone digital, Bethesda will have something in place with Steam, Microsoft and Sony so digital customers will get access as well.
As usual, if you shop off the beaten path, check with your retailer to see how they will be getting codes.
Public Service Announcement: Pre-ordering Wolfenstein: The New Order is only way to ensure access to the Doom beta.
Bethesda and MachineGames will be releasing Wolfenstein: The New order on PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, globally on May 20.
