Announced earlier today on the PlayStation blog, We Are Doomed by Vertex Pop will be released on the PlayStation 4 and Vita in 2015. Vertex Pop is a small Toronto-based studio headed up by Mobeen Fikree. His game, We Are Doomed is a twin stick shooter where players kill invading polygons with an overpowered laser beam.
The title has been shown on the floor of PAX East at the Mini-Indie MEGA Booth as well as the ID@Xbox event on the Microsoft campus prior to PAX Prime. Therefore, it was somewhat surprising news to hear the title was coming to the PlayStation 4 and Vita. But in past conversations with Mobeen, he will be releasing We Are Doomed on as many available platforms as possible.
During the course of gameplay, players will be armed with a moderate sized laser beam which can take out most enemies within close proximity. As you kill enemies, there will be purple cubes to collect which raise your super beam meter. Once the meter is full, players can then use the much larger beam, which can reach across the screen, to take out all the enemies. Players will need to have a keen eye though as enemies can still sneak in and take you out while your wielding the large beam.
We Are Doomed’s art style features loud colors, different shapes, and just enough glitchy geometry to keep you on your toes. Mo doesn’t see his game as a throwback but rather “an alternate reality scenario”. Instead of the AAA graphics we’re used to, “What if instead, flat shaded, vector-based graphics ruled the world?” But who is he kidding, the game is really about blowing stuff up, enjoying the atmosphere, and climbing those leaderboards with your high scores.
The PlayStation 4 version will arrive first followed by the PS Vita version later in 2015.
