Valve has announced that there are over three million unique monthly players tracked as users of DotA 2.
The stand-alone sequel to the Defense of the Ancients mod for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, DotA 2 is an online multiplayer battle arena game which is actually still in beta form, although this hasn’t stopped its huge growth in popularity, with over 100 million matches having already been played.
Valve stated, “With over 3 million unique players every month, the Dota 2 community is blossoming into a beautiful flower.”
Steam recently reached its own milestone when it logged over six million concurrent users, and the success of DotA 2 has been accredited as having played an important role in this achievement.
Valve released its most recent update for DotA 2 several days ago, and a full list of what was included in the update can be found here.
DotA 2 is to be released on Steam, although Valve has yet to announce an official release date.
