Debuting via cinematic trailer during Microsoft’s E3 2011 Press Conference it was announced that Halo 4, the next title in the ground-braking series, would be released during the holiday season of next year exclusively for the Xbox 360.
Halo 4 will be the first game not developed by original creator Bungie who decided to make 2010’s Halo: Reach their final act in the series. Instead the game is being developed by Microsoft’s in-house Halo developer 343 Industries, who until recently managed Halo Waypoint for Microsoft, a centralized hub for downloadable content for the Halo series on Xbox Live.
Microsoft has high hopes for this new title. With Don Mattrick, the President of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, saying that he hopes the new game will be the “beginning of a new trilogy” in the franchise and audiences will respond well to the return of the Master Chief from the original Halo game released back in 2007. Time will tell if returning to the roots of the Halo series bares fruit for Microsoft. In the meantime check out the E3 2011 Halo 4 debut trailer below.
