In May a photo leaked of Sony’s NGP hand-held device revealing for the first time what the device looked like. It was also rumored that the NGP would be named the Playstation Vita. At the time Sony would not confirm these leaks true or not but it was assumed that the E3 2011 conference would answer many of these questions.
Like clock work during Sony’s E3 2011 press conference the President of Sony Entertainment Kaz Hirai took to the stage and confirmed that Playstation Vita is in fact the official name of their next generation platform and successor to the PSP. He also announced that there will be two models of the Playstation Vita, one Wi-Fi model which will sell for $249 state-side and a 3G/Wifi model which will run on the AT&T cell phone network (sorry iphone users) for $299 state-side. Sony plans to roll out the Playstation Vita sometime later this year.
Below we posted a video from a Youtube user playing Uncharted: Golden Abyss on the Playstation Vita at the E3 2011 Conference just to give you an idea of what we’re dealing with. First off, you’ll notice the wide profile of the device as it’s a lot larger than the PSP. You’ll also see that it sports a touch-screen display and it’s vamped up graphics are to die for. But be wary of the wide profile as IGN has a report out today that the PS Vita is hard to hold. Check it out.
