Nintendo finally showed off some gameplay and revealed some new features and information about the upcoming Pokémon Sun and Moon games. Coming this November to 3DS, the latest Pokémon games look to at least shake things up in regards to visuals by heading to the tropical islands of Alola. Pokémon games have all tended to be based on regions of Japan, so it has been interesting to see how the developers have moved regions to islands based on Hawaii.
The gameplay showed off the vibrant and lush tropical region. Alola has an increased color palette over previous entries. One thing that stood out was the change to how the camera acts during battle, offering more sweeping pans and making for a more cinematic feel during fights.
A new feature to the game is a mode called Battle Royal, which involves 4 trainers facing off against each other at the same time. Each trainer chooses 3 pokémon for the fight and then sends them in, one at a time. The battles end when one trainer has had all 3 of their fighters knocked out. The game then totals who had the most KOs and how many pokémon they had left. This looks to be a very exciting new way to battle with others.
A few new pokémon were revealed as well: Pikepek, Yungoose and Grubbin. All three of these were basic pokémon. Pikepek is a Normal and Flying-type pokémon, Yungoos is a Normal-type, and Grubbin is a Bug-type. A final mythical one, Magearna, was revealed. The interesting thing involving Magearna is that, in the game, you have a QR scanner function, and Nintendo will be distributing QR codes after release for trainers to acquire and scan to receive this legendary creature.
Pokemon Sun and Moon will arrive in North America on November 18th, 2016 on the Nintendo 3DS.
