Among the visually distinct games announced at Microsoft’s Xbox Media Briefing today was The Artful Escape from Beethoven & Dinosaur. It’s being published by Annapurna Interactive, who recently released What Remains of Edith Finch and features hallucinogenic visuals and lots of guitar shredding. Check out a trailer for the game below.
Players take control of teenage musician Francis Vendetti, as he ventures on a multidimensional journey to influence his own stage persona. As the trailer shows, this is a game all about its music and its art, which comes together to form a very trippy and wild experience. The Artful Escape is an “action, adventure, exploration, narrative driven, musical-laser-light-battle kind of game“, and that may even put it lightly.
I’m personally very excited for whatever this game ends up actually being, but right now it just looks like a wet dream of psychedelia and prog rock (the best mix). The Artful Escape doesn’t have a release date yet, but it is an Xbox One “console launch exclusive”. This will also be the debut game from Beethoven & Dinosaur.
