Today at the Hollywood Palladium EA Play showcased an upcoming game called Sea of Solitude created by Jo-Mei games out of Berlin. The developer announced the game’s development back in February 2015. And the creative director Cornelia Geppert expressed that personal experience inspired this artistic creation. The game explores bot fears and emotions.
In the words of Cornelia herself:
“Sea of Solitude is by far the most artistic and personal project I’ve ever created. At times it is very challenging to dig that deep into your own feelings like core fears, longing and anger, but at the same time it is the most fulfilling thing to express those very feelings by putting it to people through art.”
Players take on the role of Kay who explores an abandoned and submerged city attempting to figure out why she has become a monster herself. She encounters other monsters that at their core were also once human. Discovering what happened to them helps her see what has happened to herself. This will be the second EA Original’s Title.
Patrick Soderlund the EVP of World Wide Studios, EA stated:
“I was stunned by the intensity of the imagery and the emotional view into the universe of Kay, the central character. We follow her journey as she finds out that her biggest enemies are not the ones she comes across as she explores the Sea of Solitude, but something even more dangerous. Its combination of beauty and rawness is unlike any game I’ve played before.”
He continued,
“The story of Sea of Solitude is unique and important. It is both beautiful and terrifying at the same time. The game is a great demonstration of the experiences that we want to help players discover through EA Originals. I cannot wait to share more about Sea of Solitude with our partners at Jo-Mei in the months ahead.”
