Earthworm Jim franchise is looking to breath new life as the game’s original development team is looking to start work on the fourth game. This is giving many fans new hope in the series, as the development team is attempting to keep it closer to the original games roots. Development may not begin soon however, as the original team has parted ways, and will need to collect themselves in order to begin work on a sequel.
Original game designer David Perry shed some light on the current situation of the franchise. Perry says that the developers have had lengthy discussion about it on Facebook, and that he is “sure it is going to happen, I just can’t tell you exactly when.”
Certain plot elements have been shared as to what the 2D game may entail. The plot line as it stands right now features an out of shape Earthworm Jim coming out of retirement. This has sparked contention between developers though, as some have seen the character concept art as uncomplimentary to the series.
The current situation points to a sequel being made by the original team. If this is the case, fans of the series will breath a sigh of relief.
