EGX is a gaming expo in Birmingham that has been going for 9 years. Prior to 2014, known as the Eurogamer Expo, it has been named the UK’s biggest games event and the show is held once a year. It invites gaming fans to view the games showcase, impressive set ups, and demonstrations. EGX gives companies in the industry the chance to get their name and products out there.
EGX has demos for up-and-coming games as well as already released popular titles. It features a dedicated corner for indie games and their developers, shopping for nerdy stuff and big companies such as Corsair selling products for your PC and console gaming needs. There are a variety of games for all major consoles and PC.
My First Time
I had the privilege to attend EGX for the first time this year. I’ve got to say, it’s the biggest convention I’ve been to so far. I had a lot of fun at EGX. I got to play some games I can’t wait for like Kingdom Hearts and Spyro. The lines were pretty long, lasting anywhere up to one or two hours, but it was worth waiting so I could get my hands on that controller.
Other major games that were there included:
- Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey
- Shadow of the Tomb Raider
- Call of Duty Black Ops 4
- Hitman 2
- Spiderman
- Life is Strange 2
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Evee.
There were also designated areas for Minecraft and Fortnite.
A few companies had stands. They sold products, held shows, talked about their upcoming games and had giveaways. Some of the stands held competitions such as Corsair and Intel where you could win some of their products, which included prizes ranging from snapback caps to brand new keyboards. ESL UK, who do professional e-sports, also held tournaments at the event.
