PlayStation announced the lineup of free games for February 2018 on PS Plus. The six games for February include a PS4 launch title and a puzzle platform game. First, for PlayStation 4 users comes a launch title for the PS4 in Knack. Next up is a puzzle/platformer in Rime. PS3 users can add Spelunker HD and Mugen Souls Z. Exiles End and Grand Kingdom are available for PS Vita users. Grand Kingdom will also be available for PS4 via Cross-Buy.
Knack was initially one of the launch titles for the PlayStation 4 in 2013. Knack is an action-adventure game where you control the titular character as his size-shifting abilities to protect the world from the invading Goblin Army. The game received a mix of average to below average reviews upon launch.
Rime is a puzzle-platformer where you play as a young boy who has awakened on a mysterious island after a torrential storm. We gave Rime an 8 out of 10, citing its “great visual style and soundtrack” with an “interesting story that rewards reflection” as positive parts of the game. It should be noted that the review was written for the Switch version of the game so the experience on the PS4 may differ.
Spelunker HD, not to be confused with Spelunky, is an upgraded version of the 1985 game. While the gameplay mostly remains the same, Spelunker HD offers 100 more levels across 10 different in-game locations. The game has gotten average reviews across the board.
Mugen Souls Z is a JRPG where you follow Chou-Chou as she has set her sights on another universe to conquer. However, she is sucked into a mystical coffin and her powers are diminished because of it. From there she and her partners will try to restore her to her former glory. We gave the game a 6 out of 10. The game has crisp and colorful cutscenes and a humorous and unique story with many hours of gameplay. However, those many hours will be spent grinding in bland environments. Also, the difficulty curve may turn you away.
Exiles End is a platformer where you play an old soldier with a dark past. The game is inspired by early 90s cinematic platformers. The game received average review scores.
Finally, Grand Kingdom where you are a member of The Guild, a neutral state which assigns quests to mercenary bands given to them from each of the four warring kingdoms in the world. We gave the game a 7 out of 10 based on its deep character/class customization, colorful environments and visuals, and complex and deep combat system. However, the game is dragged down by the un-interesting characters, repetitive gameplay, and the shortage of the storyline.
These games will be available on Tuesday, February 6 so it gives you time to pick up the January’s games. What do you think of February’s games? Let us know in the comment section below.
