Many gamers have played Polygon’s fantastic indie game, Fez, by now. Originally launched as an Xbox Live Arcade exclusive, Fez has most recently launched on Steam to satisfy the hunger for PC gamers which has seemed to done quite well for Phil Fish and his team.
However, the recently announced Fez II (which many assumed would follow a similar release schedule to the original) has been confirmed to be NOT coming to either the Xbox One or Xbox 360. According to Phil Fish himself, this is due to Microsoft’s continuing refusal to allow indie developers to self-publish on Xbox Live.
Phil Fish tweeted the follow saying:
“thing is the patch is irrelevant to the situation. i would develop for xbone if they’d let me. but they won’t. THAT’s the fucking story”.
(in reply to one Twitter user asking “@PHIL_FISH did I miss something? why wont they let you?”
“im independent and i don’t have a publisher. i can’t release games on xbone.”
“i’d love to release my games on every platform, but microsoft is making it impossible for me to release on theirs. it’s a shame.”
