Alright, it’s the last podcast of 2016. We’ve still got 2016 movies to catch up on including some that don’t technically get a full release until 2017. But until then, enjoy this jam-packed edition of the podcast. Christopher Cross and Dylan Schwan finally get to have an honest-to-god conversation about La La Land – the movie that no one will stop talking about (read Chris’s review here). Has Chazelle managed to outdo his previous film, Whiplash? And how has he taken the movie musical and made it such a smash hit? We discuss all of this and more. Plus, Dylan has a giveaway!
That’s right. If you can name which other two films, besides La La Land, both Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone have co-starred in, you can win yourself a digital copy of the soundtrack. You also have to live in the United States (we’re Canadian and just as baffled as you are by the restriction). Send your answer to christopher.cross@bagogames.com before January 3rd to get entered in the contest.
But if contests aren’t your thing, that’s cool. Dylan saw the IMAX clip of Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk that has been playing before some screenings of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. We also talk about Justin Kurzel’s Assassin’s Creed adaptation, Mike Mills’s 20th Century Women, Train to Busan, Blue Jay, and for those who have been waiting, we also finally discuss Westworld. That last one is enough content for one episode, but we’re giving you that and more! We also have to make up for the lack of news and blu-rays.
Next week we’ll be back to discuss the year in television and probably some other stuff.
