Square Enix held their Uncovered event for Final Fantasy XV tonight, where they finally revealed the exact day we will all be able to enjoy the long-awaited entry in the popular series. Final Fantasy XV will be released on September 30th, 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. They also announced a lot of anime and movie-related tie-ins to the game which we covered in exhaustive detail here as well. Above is a trailer entitled “Reclaim Your Throne” which showcases more of the game’s cinematics and gameplay, as well as a cover of “Stand by Me” by Florence and the Machine.
Those who cannot wait for the game’s release will be able to experience it now in the form of a “Platinum Demo” which will place players into the dream of Young Noctis. You can watch the trailer for the demo below:
Unlike the previous demo, which required the purchase of Final Fantasy Type-0, this demo is completely free and available to download now. It tells a story that has players experiencing a lot of the mechanics they will find in the full game, but in a story that is wholly unique to this demo. Yes, that means it will not be found in the final version of Final Fantasy XV and instead acts as a taste of what is to come.

Those who want to pre-order the game because all of the above cannot possibly satisfy their appetite, there are plenty of versions of the game to appease you. Let’s start with the big one: an Ultimate Collector’s edition (pictured below) that is limited to 30,000 copies worldwide. If you want this set, you’ll have to pre-order from the Square Enix Online Store. It contains “all Deluxe Edition content plus an additional exclusive two-disc steelbook containing the official Blu-ray Disc Music (featuring music from FINAL FANTASY XV, KINGSGLAIVE and BROTHERHOOD) and the BROTHERHOOD Blu-ray (containing an exclusive sixth episode). Also includes a PLAY ARTS -KAI- Noctis action figure with Ultimate Edition-exclusive weapon.”
As mentioned above, there is also a deluxe edition which those who want a slightly smaller package can attain from major retailers. The Square Enix Store states that “…the Deluxe Edition contains all Day One Edition content plus an exclusive two-disc steelbook including both FINAL FANTASY XV and the KINGSGLAIVE Blu-ray. Also includes an exclusive car recolor DLC and the Royal Raiment costume DLC from KINGSGLAIVE.”
There is one last thing: if you pre-order any version of the game from the Square Enix store, you will receive a free Final Fantasy XV postcard set which contains five postcards. Are you excited yet? Good, because Square Enix is clearly pulling out all the stops for this title (as they should). It’s been years in the making and they know it.
