Today the publisher 2K games has revealed their plans for PAX East 2014, a huge gaming festival which will be taking place in Boston this weekend. As well as showing off the newest game in the Borderlands franchise and Turtle Rock Studio’s Evolve, they also let on that Firaxis will be using the event to announce their newest AAA title. The game will be announced at Firaxis Games’ Mega Panel which will be held in the DragonFly Theatre at 11:30am this Saturday.
Firaxis was founded by Sid Meier in 1996 and became part of 2K games when they were acquired by Take Two Interactive in 2005. They are most famous for creating in depth strategy titles such as the Civilisation franchise. Apart from their iOS projects their last major releases were the expansion packs Civilisation V: Brave New World and XCOM: Enemy Within.
There has been much speculation as to the identity of this new game but so far no credible rumours have emerged. Being that it has been over 3 years since Civilisation V was released, it could be Civilisation VI that is going to be announced. Yet it is just as likely that this game could be a new Sid Meier IP. We will have to wait until Saturday to find out.
