FOX has found Serenity again on the streets of Gotham with one of Captain Reynold’s own. Dr. Leslie Thompkins is the latest character to join the show early next year and will be played by none other than Firefly and Stargate SG1’s Morena Baccarin. The actress returns to the network more than a decade after Joss Whedon’s cult-classic ended after a 14-episode run.
Deadline describes Thompkins as “a gifted and dedicated physician” as well as a friend of Bruce Wayne’s parents, Thomas and Martha as she was developed back in the 1970s as a surrogate mother figure to the man that would become Batman.
“She is determined to use her skills to aid Gotham’s most in need,” Deadline continues, “which currently means working at the newly opened Arkham Asylum’s Home for the Criminally Insane. In addition to her medical skills, her coolness under pressure will serve her well as she finds herself drawn close to James Gordon and into more and more dangerous waters.”
That no doubt goes without saying following last week’s reveal of the infamous super-villain hotspot, which we thought was rather good. Baccarin also joins Nicholas D’Agosto’s Harvey Dent.
FOX’s Gotham airs Monday nights at 8/7 central and just recently landed itself a full season.
