If you are time travelling from when the Nintendo 3DS was originally launched and are reading the news title above then you may be confused to learn that the ‘once struggling’ handheld seems to be going from strength to strength as more and more developers jump onto the 3DS band-wagon, releasing better and better titles with each passing month. This is especially true for first party titles, which are doing particularly well.
Nintendo of America has given evidence to this by reporting that first party 3DS software sales have risen a whopping 52% in the past years. Delving deeper into these statistics we learn that in the first quarter of 2013, more than 2.1 million first party Nintendo 3DS games were sold in the US alone, which in comparison to 2012, it took 30 weeks for titles to reach ‘just’ 2 million units sold.
Notable titles for April are LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins which has regularly featured in both the UK All-Formats chart and especially in the EU eShop Charts which has sold 94,000 units across both physical and digital formats in North America whilst Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon sold 140,000 copies meaning that it has now amassed a total of 530,000 copies sold.
