Some may remember the cancellation of Star Wars: Battlefront 3 back in 2008. This was due to discrepancies between developer Free Radical Games, and their publisher, LucasArts.
Free Radical’s founder, David Doak, had been quoted saying: “We went from talking to people who were passionate about making games to talking to psychopaths who insisted on having an unpleasant lawyer in the room.” Adding insult to injury, the game was “pretty much done”.
Youtube user, Borman18, recently managed to somehow get his hands on an alpha build of the unfinished game, and released an hours worth of footage with accompanying commentary. This being an alpha build, the game is far from perfect with plenty of— bugs, pop-out, and horrible textures/animations. However, it does run as one would expect a Battlefront title to run—making it a bit depressing for those that looked forward to duking it out in multiplayer battles, across their favorite Star Wars locations.
Free Radical sites LucasArts’ inability to commit marketing to the game as its final nail in the coffin—despite the fact it was close to completion.
Between Free Radical’s disputes with LucasArts management, and the departure of creative lead, Clint Hocking, one might wonder, “What in the hell is going on over at LucasArts?”
