David Solari, previously a member of Codemasters staff, has moved to the makers of the popular MMORPG Runescape, Jagex Ltd. Runescape was made by a student in his room, but eventually made way for Jagex to become an immensely successful company that has since made millions from it’s subscribers. Jagex is obviously a very prestigious milestone in ones career, and a great company to work for, particularly if you’re moving from Codemasters.
Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard had nothing but praise for David following announcement of his big move, saying
“David’s leadership, online experience, gravitas and passion for games will help fortify an already successful team. On a personal note, David is an all round great guy and a perfect match for Jagex DNA.”
Solari worked on Lord of the Rings Online and is eagerly looking forward to a new challenge with Jagex. He has not made it explicitly clear why he made such a move; whether a new game is underway and such is all very much confidential, of course, but we will let you to your own deductions as to why he made the jump. He certainly has plenty of online gaming experience for Jagex to tap into, what with them being the developers of Runescape, and smaller games on the later developed Funorb, which seems to have died down a little over the last few years.
Codemasters sometimes seems to be a bigger, more professional company than Jagex, as the latter seems to focus on low end graphics and browser based games. Codemasters makes games that are played worldwide on several consoles, so it could be said that the decision to move to a “lower end” company is a bit rash by those not close to the deal. Gerhard and other involved parties, however, seem to be pleased to have him on board.
