What a week it has been for Pokemon fans across the world. Not only did Nintendo dedicate their first Nintendo Direct to their lovable pocket-sized monsters but they also announced that the next generation of Pokemon titles will be giving the series the much needed overhaul fans have been asking for for years, exclusively on Nintendo 3DS whilst also being released at the same time world wide in October this year! Whew!
It should come as no surprise then to learn that Game Freak are focused on handheld games, rather than a home console version of the series. J.C. Smith, a Pokemon Company International executive explain why this was the case to Game Informer:
“Traditionally Game Freak has always loved the game to be on a portable device because of the communication, trading, and the experience of taking this adventure with you.”
He later continues in the article:
“That’s why they’ve always prioritized a portable version of the game first. They’ve always liked what you can do in the real world with that… It comes down to what the creators want to do. Every time I’ve heard them talk about it, it’s been about the portable experience.”
Do you agree with the Pokemon Company’s approach to the Pokemon series? How would you direct the series differently? Let us know in the comments below!
